Coming of Age: Celebrating 21 years of Melas in the UK
VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED - this is a great opportunity for you to be part of a ground breaking project - capturing the history of the UK’s pioneering National Melas
New Art Exchange and Nottingham Asian Arts Council are looking for volunteers to research the Nottingham Mela over the past 21 years. Nottingham and Bradford Melas were the first two National melas in the UK, launched in 1988. To mark this historical achievement both melas have joined to together in partnership to produce a book and exhibition, funded by Heritage Lottery Funding.
We are looking for volunteers to compile past ephemera, and interview key people from the melas history. The information the volunteers compile will be used by a professional writer and curator to form the basis of the book and exhibition.
What you will receive from us:
· Training in Oral History techniques, audio recording training and research methods.
· Volunteer expenses
· Fully acknowledged in the book and exhibition
· VIP treatment.
What we are looking for:
· Someone who can spare a few days work over the next six months (approximately 5 hours per week)
· A person with commitment and enthusiasm
· Preferably a student studying a subject that is relevant to this research
