Democracy not Tyranny at Work - info for voluntary and community sector groups[/b]
Involved in a voluntary and community sector group and
- tired of filling in forms;
- acting in the interests of funders not your users;
- counting statistics not working with people;
- fitting your activities to meet funders targets;
- ticking boxes not transforming lives;
- repressive contract specifications and targets;
- competition for contracts;
- top down hierarchies;
- mechanistic and uncritical quality assurance systems;
- prescriptive and uniform practices
then come to the National Coalition for Independent Actions’ *Democracy Not
Tyranny at Work* session.
On the *27th February* there will be a discussion with VCS practitioners,
activities, academics and concerned citizens the way that our community
groups and charities are increasingly being forced to operate. We are
going
to explore how VCS organisations are managed and have to respond to ‘target
culture’. The aim of the session is to spark a discussion amongst us about
the impact of current management approaches on voluntary and community
action and explore other ways of managing and organising ourselves in more
democratic and effective ways.
By taking part in the workshop you will contribute to the NCIA work in
challenging the current way that the VCS is run. The session will be used
to
help to generate ideas, produce a leaflet on managerialism and support the
wider campaign to help the voluntary sector become independent.
If you want to find out more details please contact Daniel King

The time and exact programme will be available nearer the time.
