Nottingham’s Hidden Garden The History of St Ann’s Heritage GardensSt Ann’s Heritage Gardens (or the Hungerhill Gardens as they are sometimes known) are the oldest of Nottingham’s allotments sites; established around 1835 they are probably the oldest and largest in Europe. They are a rare survival of a type of hedged gardens, found just outside the centre of industrial towns, which were once common in the 19th century. Their unique history and heritage has been recognised as a Grade 2* listed site. We are planning a couple of events at St Anns Library to talk about the gardens and capture local people’s memories of the site. So come along on either Tuesday 30th March 2010, 10am – noon or Wednesday 14th April 2010, 2-4pm See • Pictures • Display • Recordings of people’s memories • Reading by Joy James, local author Come and join us for tea and chat • What are your memories? • How would you like us to set out the new display gardens? • Do you remember the St Anns Rose Show? • Ever wanted to revisit the gardens?
