We are looking for more people to get involved with the bar collective at the Sumac (Forest Fields Social Club). It is a great opportunity to gainexperience in bar management, event organisation, cellar management and volunteer supervision. It is a role that you can run with and get creative - we always need new ideas and new events happening. The bar is organised by a short weekly meeting at 6pm on Tuesdays at the Sumac. The position is of course voluntary - but that is what makes the Sumac so amazing - everyone is doing if for the love of it! Come along if you are interested or email sumac@riseup.net.
Coming soon:
Wednesday 25th March – Small World Cinema – Kurdish New Year film and food night – food from 7, bar from 7.30
For the Kurds, New Year is not just celebrating another date in the calendar nor is it a religious occasion. It is a political act. The event has until recently been an illegal festival. The memory of the massacre of 102 Kurds, by Turkish forces in 1992 is still raw in everyone’s mind and it is only recently that the holiday was de-criminalised in Turkey.

The Sumac Centre:
The Sumac Centre has been running in some guise or other for since 1989.
It is a pretty unusual place, as it is run entirely by volunteers, and as
far as possible without hierarchy. It provides a social centre and resources for the Forest Fields Community. It also provides invaluable
support for grassroots campaigns for social & environmental justice and
animal rights. It always needs more volunteers, and is a great way to meet people and do worthwhile stuff with your time off. Get involved!
