Ecoworks vacancy: Food Projects Coordinator
Ecoworks delivers community environmental projects in Nottingham, primarily targeting those experiencing disadvantage. Our projects have focused on food growing and healthy eating from Ecoworks’ beginnings 18 years ago. In 2009, we received funding from the Big Lottery’s Local Food Fund deliver a number of complementary activities that come together with the aim of creating a new, local sustainable food system that will help disadvantaged communities to learn together, and be resilient to the onset of rising energy and food prices. The FRESH Communities Project combines tailored growing training in community vegetable gardens across the city, and buys produce from a number of small and medium scale local growers to feed into our box scheme and stalls. Alongside the development of FRESH Communities, we have set up two new growing spaces – one on an acre of land in St Ann ’s in the grounds of our new office, and a 14 acre site 5 miles outside Nottingham which we are developing as a new productive and demonstration forest farm and market garden – PIP (Permaculture in Practice). Our Harvest Cafe project uses the produce grown on all our sites with other ethically sourced ingredients to prepare and sell healthy meals through our mobile catering van and outside catering service.
Collectively, our food projects aim to increase the availability, sustainability and affordability of locally grown, chemical free fruit and vegetables, and teaching people about cooking and eating healthily and sustainably. We are concerned with improving ways in which our community food enterprise can be financially viable whilst delivering the social and environmental benefits we aim to achieve.
We are seeking an exceptional Project Coordinator with a demonstrated interest in healthy, sustainable food and communities. You will take responsibility for managing our food-related social enterprise and educational projects and the staff that deliver these. As part of Ecoworks' Management Team, you will also take an active role in the strategic and operational management of Ecoworks. You will research and develop new projects, develop partnerships and secure funding in order to safeguard existing and develop new projects.
A one year contract will be offered (initially) at 3-5 days per week, but we fully expect the role to continue after this period.
Closing date: Tuesday 26th October. For full details and an application form, please visit our web site: www.ecoworks.org.uk
